Bidding Styles

Any one that has been on Quibids for any amount of time has experienced the rush. Watching waiting.  The most exiting element of any auction is the collection of bidding types or styles. But as we move from entertainment to competition we find that we need to take a closer look at these bidding styles. How many are there? How can we spot them? How can we take that knowledge and use it to our advantage? That is what I will be covering here.
Adrenaline Junkies – The adrenaline junkies are people that can’t see past the next bid. There counting along with the timer. These are usually the most emotional of bidders and at times some of the most aggressive. The subconsciously love getting into bidding wars with last second bidders. There are also the most prone to turn Quibids from a strategy game into a gamble game. This also means that the loose lots of auction because they will let the timer hit 1 and choice not to bid because they want the adrenaline rush of almost losing. Be on the watch for a confusion point as Adrenaline junkies usually have less then 100 bids.

The Resellers – These users are familiar with the buy it know option and don’t care if it has to resort to that in fact they plan on it and will use hundreds of bids. They feel if they win great they got a discount if they lose who cares I will just sell it for a slight mark up and move on to the next item.  This group is a big fan of super aggressive bidding and a strong user of the bid o matic. But just because they plan on using the buy it now if they lose this dos not mean they don't deploy a strategy. Most Resellers bid in the middle or higher end of the average ending cost to stack the odds in there favor. Waiting is the best strategy to use when up against a reseller.
The Waiters – This patient thief’s wait in the shadows of ever auction waiting for everyone to exhaust there bids. They are willing to take the auction for a higher cost if it means better odds of winning. The good thing is that most people that pursue this strategy don’t use Quibids or any penny auction very long so the majority of them are just a few levels above newbie status. The bad is there is a small hand full that are extremely good at bidding this way. You can sometimes spot them because they will place one or two last second bids in the middle of an auction and then disappear for later. This can be difficult as this is also the sign of a limper style just consider every limper as a possible waiter.
The Snaggers – These aggressive barging hunters only hit up auctions at the very beginning. Another group that is primarily made up of newbie’s.  They use intimidation tactics like the bid o matic or aggressive bids. The majority of these people will leave to write about how Quibids is a scam.
The Bullies – This group is by nature very aggressive but usually don’t do their homework they are drawn to the shiny items such as iPods and electronics. They do win from time to time but because they don’t do their homework and are prone to compulsive bidding like the adrenaline junkies they will pop up at all different stages of an auction.  It’s best to wait them out or if you have the bid bank you can try to out bully them. I have seen many bully bidders go head to head and it usually dos not last long before one of them tucks there tail and leaves.
The Power Bidders - The power bidder will go out of his or hers way to show off how many bids they have. Power bidders drop over a 1000 bids a week and bids in multiple styles from aggressive to waiting. If you see what you think is a power bidder who is being extremely aggressive they are either showing off  to try and get there’s names added to a do not bid against list or our attacking a users who cost them an earlier auction. Get OUT OF THE WAY come back in a half hour and see if they’re gone. You do not want to bid against these types of bidders when there are in this mode. If you find yourself under attack by a power bidder who is following you from auction to auction sign out stay away for a

couple of days and change the time you bid so if you bid in the morning  try bidding at night.
The Limper's - These people play Quibids like it’s a slot machine and usually only place one bid and most of time are bidding from the main page.  This group usually haunts Quibids in the later hours of the day.
The Strategist – Unless you watch an auction from start to finish there is a good chance you will never know a user to be a strategist. A strategist bids according to how others are bidding and deploy software like bidfellows or bidproapp to gather as much information as possible during an auction. They know the items best time, average high and low cost. Have list of bidder’s names and info for each and will bid in multiple styles and stages depending on the situation.
Now that we understand some of these groups and the way they bid you can now try spotting them in the auctions. Try using this information to predict when users will stop bidding or how they will bid. This information will make you consider how and when to place a bid based off the users that are actively bidding.
